Technology projects are complex and multi-faceted endeavours that require careful planning, execution, and management. For those new to technology projects, it can take time to pinpoint where to start and what steps should take priority. As a Salesforce top Partner with over 600 projects under our belts, we wanted to share some of the essential best practices to help you hit the ground running.

12 Steps to ensuring Successful projects

  1.  Define clear project objectives and scope: Clearly outline what you want to achieve with the overall project, including the deliverables, and ask yourself what good looks like. Doing so at the beginning will help ensure the project stays focused and reduce the risk of scope creep.
  2.  Assign a project manager: Assign a single point of responsibility for the project. The project manager should have experience in technology project management and be skilled in leadership, communication, and problem-solving.
  3.  Develop a detailed project plan: Include a timeline, budget, resource allocation, and project management methodologies. Use project management software to help keep track of progress, deadlines, and budget. TechRepublic give a good overview of options in 2023
  4.  Assemble a strong project team: Ensure your team has the right skills, knowledge, and experience to deliver the project. Encourage collaboration, open communication, and trust within the group.
  5.  Define roles and responsibilities: Ensure each team member knows their role and what they are responsible for. Make sure they have the resources they need to complete their tasks.
  6.  Establish regular project status meetings: Hold regular meetings to discuss progress, identify issues, and make decisions. Regular meetings drive alignment and help ensure everyone is on the same page and keeps the project moving forward.
  7.  Anticipate and manage risks: Identify potential risks and develop contingency plans. Monitor risks and address them as soon as they arise.
  8.  Use agile project management methods: Agile project management methods are flexible and iterative, allowing for continuous improvement and faster delivery of results. Teamwork gives a great breakdown of what Agile project management is and each methodology.
  9.  Continuously evaluate progress: Regularly assess progress and make adjustments as needed. Ensure the project is on track and the objectives and deliverables are met.
  10.  Communicate regularly with stakeholders: Keep stakeholders informed about project progress and any changes. Address their concerns and engage them in decision-making.
  11.  Celebrate successes: Recognise and celebrate successes along the way. Keeping progress and success front of mind helps keep the team motivated and focused.
  12.  Continuously improve: After the project is completed, evaluate the project to identify areas for improvement. Implement lessons learned in future projects.
